The ACS National Awards program is designed to encourage the advancement of chemistry in all its branches, to support research in chemical science and in industry, and to promote the careers of chemists.


Nomination Information

The nomination period for the 2025 ACS National Awards closed on November 1, 2023. The winners will be announced in August 2024 in Chemical & Engineering News.


2024 Priestley Medalist

Carolyn Bertozzi, the Anne and Robert Bass professor of chemistry at Stanford University and the Baker Family Director of Stanford’s interdisciplinary institute Sarafan ChEM-H, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Priestley Medal, the American Chemical Society’s highest honor. She is being recognized for her work on bioorthogonal chemistry and the glycobiology of cancer, tuberculosis, and other diseases, as well as for her mentoring, her big-picture strategic thinking, and for her committment to advocacy for inclusion and diversity. View C&EN article.

2024 National Awards Hybrid Ceremony

The 2024 National Awards Banquet and Ceremony, including the 2024 Priestley Medal Address by Dr. Carolyn Bertozzi, will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in conjunction with ACS Spring 2024 in New Orleans, LA. It will be a hybrid event (in-person and virtual) at the New Orleans Marriott Hotel and online.

2023 National Awards Hybrid Ceremony

The 2023 National Awards Banquet and Ceremony, including the 2023 Priestley Medal Address by Dr. Cato Laurencin, took place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in conjunction with ACS Spring 2023 in Indianapolis, IN. It was a hybrid event (in-person and virtual) at the JW Marriott Indianapolis Hotel and online.
